In 1967 he purchased the Firestone Franchise from the Waggoners. He later went on to build the Firestone Tire & Service Center, and later the True Value Hardware Store and Copple Electronics & Radio Shack, all on Main Street. Norman loved the downtown business district of Rushville, and organized many parades and activities through the Rushville Chamber of Commerce and the downtown Merchants Association. He spent many summers organizing and setting off the fireworks display on July 4th! Whenever asked to contribute to an event in Rushville, Norman was always the first in line to help.
