H. G. HESS PASSES AWAY TUESDAY MORN

Henry G. Hess, Douglas resident for the past twenty-six years, died Tuesday morning after a lingering illness of several years. Services were held at the Hofmann Chapel Wednesday afternoon, Rev. Louis Gale officiating. Vocal selections were rendered by Mrs. Chas. E. Clark and Miss Florence Cook, with Mrs. Henry Schlichting at the piano. The body will be taken to Glendale, Calif., for burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Henry G. Hess, the 14th child of Elias Hess and Lucinda Wright Hess was born near Elkhart, Ind., July 29, 1862.

He married Hattie Hay Ladd Sept. 21, 1886 at Argos, Ind., who preceded him in death Sept. 13, 1927, and was laid to rest in Forest Lawn Park, Glendale, Calif.

To this union were born five children: Wright Ladd, who passed away Jan. 29, 1926, and was buried at Forest Lawn; Lu Emily Pearson, May Smith, Ray Immel and Famo Stoddard. Besides his four children and four grandchildren, one sister, Hannah Sutton of Madison, Wis., survives him, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Mr. Hess was the son of deeply religious parents who pioneered in Indiana. He was a man of many callings. He and his wife, after finishing a normal course at the University of Valparaiso, taught several years prior to their marriage. Finishing college at Detroit, Mich., he engaged in banking, later developing a lumber business at Jacksonville, Fla, and Cadillac, Mich.

In 1908 he came to Wyoming and was one of the founders of Jireh College. Being of a religious nature, this denominational college (a branch of the Defiance College of Ohio) was the incentive which brought his family from Michigan to make their home in Wyoming.

In 1912 he moved to Douglas and entered into business. Here he had resided until his death. He was a very active member of the Masonic Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star. He was a past patron of the O.E.S. at Argos, Ind., and was a faithful church member and continued his activities even during his prolonged illness.
