KING, CARL S. JR., 88, of Wyndham Way, Wakefield, died Sunday at home.
He was born June 14, 1921, in Exeter, Rhode Island. He was the 5th child of Hannah (Barry) King and Carl S. King Sr. The Kings had one other son after Carl, completing their family of five boys and one girl.
At the age of 5 months he had both eyes removed because of Retinoblastoma (Cancer of the optic nerve). He was educated by Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown, Massachusetts and the New England Conservatory of Music.
Carl received a Bachelors of Music in 1949, with a Major in Trumpet. He then attended the Center of Musical Guidance, in Boston, Massachusetts for training as a Music Therapist.
In 1952 he married L. Eleanor Riccitelli in a ceremony at our Lady of Mercy Church in East Greenwich, RI.
Carl was employed by the State of Rhode Island as a Music Therapist at Ladd School in Exeter, RI, retiring after 20 years of service.
For thirty years he had been a member of the John Moitoza Dixieland Band of Newport, RI. He had played keyboard, trumpet, valvetrombone and tuba with this band.
Carl was a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Newport Federation of Musicians, Local 529, American Federation of Musicians, ASCAP, AFSCME- RI Retiree Chapter #94, Council 1011 Knights of Columbus and the Mayflower Society.
He was a Ham Radio Operator and his handle was KB1BJA.
He is survived by a brother.
He was brother of the late Matthew, Francis and Paul King and Margaret Petteruti.
