Marriage bonds in old Burke Co, NC for Lewis' parents spell his father's name as "Edmiston". The spelling of the surname has undergone further changes since the families moved into north Georgia. There was a Richard Edmundson in the special 1834 census of Union Co. No variation of this surname is found in 1840 census of Union County, but appears in Union again in 1850.

In 1900 census of Gilmer Co, Barney C. & Mandy McHan are living in the Tickanetley District - next door to Mandy's sister, Arminda (Mindy) & Jonathan Ellis. Barney & Mandy had been married for 18 years; Mandy had given birth to 8 children, all of whom were still living in 1900.

NOTE: In 1880 census of Gilmer Co is one "new" Edmonson family: Minard & Tabitha Edmonson, ages 42 & 37, respectively; both born in NC. They have seven children (all daughters), ages ranging from 18 down to 2 yrs; all were born in GA. Most (or all) of these seven daughters married during the 1880s-1890s to young men living in the Tickanetley District. No additional information on Minard and/or Tabitha Edmondson. Any relationship to Lewis & Frances Edmondson is unknown.
