Darlene attended rural school and graduate from Butte (NE.) High School in 1940. She attended Wayne State College, Wayne, Nebraska and taught rural country schools in the Naper and Butte, Nebraska area for five years. On February 3, 1945, she was married to Herman Tunink at Butte, Nebraska. The couple was blessed with two children: Carol Ann and David. Darlene and Herman began their married lives on a farm northwest of Butte, Nebraska where they lived for several years. In 1952, they moved one mile south to a farm where they resided until 1988, retiring and moving to Spencer, Nebraska.
Darlene was a devoted farmwife, mother and grandmother. She spent many hours playing guitar/singing, gardening, baking, cross word puzzles, and doing craft projects. She loved spending time with her children and especially her grandchildren.
Darlene is survived by: husband of 69 years, Herman Tunink; daughter, Carol Ann (husband Ernie) Eilers of Spencer, Nebraska; son, David (wife Deb) Tunink of Lincoln, Nebraska; three grandsons, one granddaughter; five great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
Darlene was preceded in death by: parents, four brothers, five sisters and their spouses; two grandsons and 2 granddaughters.
Mass of Christian burial for Darlene N. Tunink, of Butte, will be Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St Mary's Catholic Church, Spencer, Nebraska. Reverend Doug Scheinost will be the celebrant.
Burial was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Spencer, Nebraska.
