City Woman Dies After Long Illness
Mrs. Lillian [Allien] McKay, 64, of 1718 12th Ave. S.W., died in General hospital Saturday morning after a long illness. Born in Strathroy, Ont., she came to Calgary in 1919 where she has lived since then. She gained a reputation as a noted singer and was one of the first women in Western Canada to perform on radio. During her residence in Calgary she was a member of the Scarboro United Church and its Women's Auxiliary. She was also a past president of Women's Canadian Club and a past matron of Edith Cavell Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. McKay leaves her husband, Alfred Edward McKay; one son, Sqdn. Ldr. Robert McKay, of Cornwall, England; two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Jean McKay and Mrs. Mary McKay of Red Deer; and six grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Murray S. McKay.
