"In 1934, Lora Altine Woodbury Underhill, in Descendants of Edward Small of New England and the Allied Families, with tracings of English Ancestry (Boston: Houghton Mifflin Co.), incorrectly identified Sarah, the wife of John Richards, as a daughter of Macuth-1 Pratt (2:914). This erroneous identification was probably derived from a misinterpretation of the will of Samuel-2 Pratt, a transcription of which Lora provided; it includes the following phrase (2:918):
“…my will is that my brother Joseph Pratt and John Richards and Samull white [sic] Shall be ouerSeuers [overseers] to this my Last will and testament…”
Joseph Pratt was the brother of Samuel Pratt but neither John Richards nor Samuel White were brothers or brothers-in-law to Samuel Pratt.
In 1990, Sarah was correctly omitted from the family group of Macuth-1 and Elizabeth (Kingham) Pratt in Frederick J. Nicholson, “The English Origin of Macuth-1 (or Matthew) Pratt and Edward-1 Bates of Weymouth, Mass.,” The American Genealogist (65[1990]:33-43, 89-96).

The origins of Sarah, wife of John Richards, are unknown.
