Jonnie Lee Dickens Barrows Burrell was born in Eldorado, Texas, on Feb. 9, 1933. She graduated valedictorian of Eldorado High School and attended San Angelo College (now Angelo State University).

She married John L. Barrows of Sonora in 1950. She and John shared a love for the development and growth of San Angelo. He passed away in 1981. Jonnie married Bill Burrell on April 13, 2000. They shared many good times and a love of travel.

Jonnie was very active in city development, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, a supporter of the Tom Green County Library, the YMCA, the Adult Literacy Council and the San Angelo Historical Society. Her desire for travel included numerous trips to Europe, Canada, Hawaii and safaris in Africa. She enjoyed her grandchildren, cooking, antiques and jewelry. One of her family's favorite dishes was her wonderful peach cobbler. Jonnie had a passion for her plants and enjoyed playing tennis and volleyball with close friends.

Jonnie was preceded in death by her husband, John; her mother, Anne Neill Dickens Hogg (Grannonnie); father Ruben Dickens; brother Neill Dickens; and nephews David and Kevin Dickens. She is survived by her husband, Bill; sons Robert Barrows and wife Susanne of San Antonio, Kenneth Barrows and wife Teresa of San Angelo and Bryan Barrows and wife Wendy of San Antonio; and stepchildren Barbara Baldwin and husband Greg, Bill Burrell Jr. and wife Andrea and Debra Wood. She is also survived by her sister, Carol Rogers and husband Gary of Plano; nieces Joni Stewart and Lori Dew; and nephews Jay Dusek and Mac Dickens. In their extended family, they have nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Her endless kindness and compassion, enduring strength and will and encouragement to others will forever be remembered by those whose lives she touched.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Sagecrest Alzheimer's Care Center for the care they have given her in the last two years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tom Green County Library or the Concho Valley Home for Girls. Service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, in Johnson's Funeral Home chapel with burial to follow in Fairmount Cemetery.
