Biography
Dorothy Elaine Harris Weatherbie, age 92, of Kincaid, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at her home.
She was born on January 21, 1922, in Blue Mound, Kansas, the daughter of Hugh and Pearl (Defore) Harris. Dorothy attended grade school at Providence Country school north west of Blue Mound for three years, then Blue Mound grade school, grades 4 through 8, then graduating from Blue Mound High School with the Class of 1939. While attending high school, Dorothy worked at her Uncle Bob Logan's restaurant and hotel in Blue Mound. Immediately after graduating, she worked at Dr. Kennedy's office in Blue Mound, then went to Kansas City and worked for the owners of Tobin & Quirk Funeral Home for her room and board, while she was attending the College of Commerce Business School. After graduating, she went to work in the Firestone District Office at 20th & Grand, Kansas City, Missouri.
Dorothy married Russell Kent "Bill" Weatherbie on January 11, 1945 in Fort Scott, Kansas. After Bill returned from service in WWII, they moved to Linn County where Bill worked on the farm for his brother in the Wall Street Community.
They later moved to Kincaid and lived in the old Kincaid Hotel apartments for a while, before moving to a home on Main Street. A few years later they purchased her present home in Kincaid. During that time in Kincaid, they had a daughter, Pamela Jane Weatherbie, born October 18, 1946, at Fort Scott. After Pam's graduation from high school in 1964, they moved to Kansas City where Dorothy worked for Sears Roebuck home office and Bill was a barber in Lenexa. They lived in Kansas City until retiring in the late 1980's when returned to their home in Kincaid.
Dorothy was a member of the Blue Mound Federated Church at an early age and later she and her husband were baptized in Kincaid Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill, in 2002; her daughter, Pam, in 2011; her younger sister, Bertha Naomi, nearly 4 years old; and her sister, Beatrice Harris Arnold.

Dorothy is survived by her cousins and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, February 3, 2014 at the Pleasant View Cemetery, Blue Mound, Kansas. Friends may view Dorothy from 12:00-5:00 PM Sunday afternoon at the funeral home in Moran. Memorial contributions may be given to the Kincaid Nutrition Site and left in care of the funeral home.
