Dr. Stanley B. Clovis, aged 80 years, of Blacksville, W. Va., died in his home after a long illness at 3:30 A. M. Wednesday, October 18, 1972. Dr. Clovis had practiced dentistry at Blacksville for more than 50 years prior to his retirement for reasons of health December 17, 1970. He was always active in the community and was particularly interested in the school and sports programs.
A son of the late Leroy Brown Clovis and Elizabeth Hennen Clovis, he was born Sept. 21, 1892, in Gilmore Township, Greene County. He attended Waynesburg College and graduated in 1917 from the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, Baltimore, Md.
Dr. Clovis began his practice at Blacksville in 1917 and shortly thereafter moved to Hundred, W, Va. He returned to Blacksville in 1920 and practiced there throughout the rest of his career.
He was a Veteran of World War 1 and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Waynesburg and James Farrell Post 330, American Legion. Masonic affiliations included membership in Waynesburg Lodge 153, the Consistory and Osiris Shrine at Wheeling, W. Va., and the Knights Templar at Morgantown, W. Va.
Surviving are his wife, Helen Kennedy Clovis, whom he married Sept. 20, 1922: a brother, Roy W. Clovis, of Waynesburg; four nephews; a niece, three great nieces, and six great- nephews.

His wife, Helen Francis Kennedy, died 21 June 1974 while living in Annandale, Virginia. There were no children from this union.

Gravesite Details

It appears that the family changed their minds about the burial location and buried the brothers, Leroy and Stanley in the Greene County Memorial Park. A monument still stands in the Eakin Cemetery with no death dates listed.
