Maxine Boatright Brown, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, went home to be with the Lord January 27, 2014. She was born in Gainsville, Missouri, August 18, 1919.
Maxine was a Christian. She and her husband Eugene Fuller Brown II found their faith in Christ who was to lead them into the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. They were baptized Palm Sunday, 1954, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Warrington, Florida, by their dear faithful Pastor William G. Kennell who came out of retirement to start Trinity Lutheran Church in Cantonment, Florida, who first gathered to worship January 5, 1975, among whom Maxine and Eugene were charter members. Maxine walked that faith to the very end of her life on earth – living that scripture, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." II Timothy 4:7
Maxine is best remembered for her love of nursing and found it a vocation beyond a profession. She graduated as a Registered Nurse (RN) from the St. John's School of Nursing, Springfield, Missouri, May 1943. She is held in high regard by many in Pensacola, Florida, for her 20 years of service at Baptist Hospital where she fulfilled assignments as a relief charge nurse, head nurse, 2nd Floor, evening assistant floor supervisor, Recovery Room Head Nurse and supervisor of the Recovery Room. Family responsibilities caused her to vary her work schedules that tempered her assignments. At the time of retirement in 1974, she was assigned to Four East. She became an adjunct instructor at PJC. She went beyond the call of duty to save lives not only with her excellent training but also with her keen sense of observation. One evening at dinner time, our close neighbor, Eunice Shultz, rushed to the door and yelled for "Max." A boy had been hit by a car on Pen Haven Drive. She raced down the street to assist. That boy recovered from head injuries to grow to adulthood, own a business, and live productively in the Pensacola area. If in the hospital whether family or friend we called for her. She was in every sense of the word, first and foremost – a Nurse.
Maxine was a devoted mother of five children, nine grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.

Maxine is preceded in death by her beloved and respected grandfather Benjamin Franklin Looney and grandmother Etna Dallas Eaves, her mother Lela (a nurse whom she whispered for on her hospital bed) and her mother's siblings: Clyde, Glenn, Murley, Dewey, Maude – mother of her twin-like cousin, Emogene (2013); her close siblings: Addie, Austin, Cona, and Virgie (Maxine was the youngest), their spouse and many of their children: Ross, Leon, Patsy, Tony, and David; her son-in-law Yancy Spencer III (2011); her husband's seven siblings – three of them nurses, one, Esther, a nursing school roommate who introduced "Boat" to Dad in 1943; and, of course, the love of her life for 66 years – Eugene (2009).
Visitation will be held at Eastern Gate Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home chapel, 1985 W Nine Mile Road, Thursday, January 30, 2014 from 5:00-8:00PM. A committal service will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery Annex pavilion off Taylor Road, NAS Pensacola, Friday, January 31, 2014 at 10:15AM, followed by a memorial service at Trinity Lutheran Church, Highway 297-A, Cantonment, Florida, at 11:30AM.
