Magdalena was born on the old Groff homestead, which had belonged to her maternal grandparents. It was located on the west bank of Middle Creek in now Clay Twp. This is where she grew up.
In 1827, Magdalena was married to Jacob Landis. They had four children:
Elizabeth b. 1928
Jacob Wissler b. 1834
Ezra (died in infancy)
Mary Ann b. 1839.
Magdalena and Jacob resided on a farm near Ephrata.
