On Sunday evening at 5 o'clock at the home at the corner of Washington avenue and Clay street, occurred the death of Mrs. Jane Benefiel, wife of R. G. Benefiel, the well-known saw mill owner of this city. Her death was due to a general breaking down of the system and followed an illness of some four days' duration, though she had been in poor health for several years.

The deceased was born in Jefferson county, Indiana, October 1, 1824, and was married to R. G. Benefiel in 1843 in Jefferson county. The family came to this county a number of years ago and lived at Michigantown before coming to this city. Mrs. Benefiel's maiden name was Jane Etherton.

Five children were born to the union and with the husband and father survive, the wife and mother being the first in the family to be called. The children are William, of Colfax, Mollie, H. N., J. F., and Addie, all of this city. Mrs. Benefiel was a Christian woman and early in life united with the Presbyterian church. She was a noble woman loved and respected by all.

The funeral will be held at the residence on Wednesday at 10 o'clock, the services to be conducted by Rev. Stark. The interment will be at the Bunnell cemetery. Relatives at Chicago, Kokomo, Madison and Michigantown have been notified and are expected here to attend the funeral.

The following pallbearers have been selected: Hez Cohee, William Dorner, William Merritt, Presley Given, O. P. Hedgcock, Will H. Coulter.
