Bernard E. Misch, 87, of La Crosse died Sunday, May 4, 2003, in Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center. He was born in Square Bluff in rural Arcadia, Wis., on Jan. 24, 1916, to Joseph and Agnes (Smieja) Misch. He married Henrietta Kokott on Aug. 27, 1940.


Bernard was an honorably discharged World War I veteran, serving in the Navy on the USS Raymond. Bernard's work experiences included Irish Hill Golf Course, Cedar Creek Golf Course, The Turkey Farm on Brice Prairie, Swanson Heavy Movers, Torrance and Son Metal Fabricators and Trempealeau Electric. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Moose Lodge, American Legion Post No. 336, Onalaska, and Thomas Rooney VFW Post No. 1530.


He is survived by his wife, Henrietta; two daughters, Eliz- abeth "Betty" (Ron) Mousel of Ludington, Mich., and Susan (William Russell of Stoddard, Wis.; six grandchildren and two-great grandchildren; one sister, Petronella Heisserer of Maple Grove, Minn.; and two brothers, Clarence (Doris)Misch of Arcadia and Dr. Allen(Marilyn) Misch of Albuquerque, N.M. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Helen Marzitelli; and one brother, Albert Misch.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, May 8, at 11 a.m. in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1333 S. 13th St. The Rev. Lawrence Berger will officiate, with burial to be in Garden of Peace Mausoleum in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park Cemetery.


The pallbearers will be Bernard's grandchildren. Memorials are requested to the Holy Trinity Restoration Fund.
