Mary Catherine Martin, 92, Diamond, died Jan. 24, 2014 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.

Mary was born June 17, 1921 in Diamond, MO and was a lifelong area resident.

Mary Catherine loved being with her family and lived life to its fullest, as a teacher and elementary principal, she touched many lives.

She earned a BS and MS degree from Pittsburg State and was with the Diamond School System for 32 years, retiring as principal at Diamond Elementary.

She was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Sorority; Diamond BPW; Spring River Christian Village Auxiliary; BFS Bible Study Group and the Diamond Christian Church. She loved being with her family and children.

Mary Catherine and Ray Martin were married on Dec. 25, 1945 at Joplin and he preceded her in death on Feb. 11, 2010.

She is survived by five children, Linda Rae Martin, Diamond; Mary Jane Stevens and husband, John W., Carthage; Rebecca Kay Martin, Diamond; Jamie Martin, Diamond and David Martin and wife, Shara, Aurora. Also surviving are grandchildren, Mary Ellen Vahle and husband, Barrett, Lee's Summit, MO; Amanda Beth Gilliam and husband, Chris, Neosho; Katie Raynea Holland and husband, Brandon, Webb City; Whitney Ann Stevens, Lee's Summit; Kimmie Jo Cash and husband, Jared, Claremore, OK; Kelsey Leanne and Elizabeth Anne Martin, Aurora; great grandchildren, Hunter, Abby, Taylor, Andrea and Ava Gilliam; Sadie and Benton Vahle, Bratie Holland and Rylie and Aaliyah Cash.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by a daughter, Sarah A. Brown and three brothers, Wendell, Carl and Paul Douthitt.

A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, at the Diamond Christian Church, Dr. Bruce Hayes and Rev. Mike Whorled officiating.

Interment will be in the Diamond Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 9:30 a.m. Monday until service time at the church.

Contributions in memory of Mary Catherine may be made to the Ozark Food Harvest or Children's Miracle Network, c/o Clark Funeral Home, P.O. Box 66, Neosho, 64850.
