John Lewis Dunlap was born October 22, 1862 in Lafayette County, Mississippi. He was the first born son of John and Martha M. Hyde Dunlap. He was named after his father and paternal grandfather, Lewis Dunlap of Lawrence County, Alabama. "Little John" as he was called was bitten by the family dog and died at age 12 from either rabies or infection. He is buried in Lafayette County, Mississippi probably in the Abbeville Cemetery. His gravesite is unknown.
