WAYNESBORO - Oscar Edwin Arehart, 74, husband of Beverley (McCray) Arehart of 24 Hickory Drive, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 28, 1939, in Swoope, a son of the late Oscar Lightner and Josephine (Troxell) Arehart.
Mr. Arehart was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Prior to retirement, he was employed at Alcoa through Burns Security as a security guard.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed woodworking and played softball.
In addition to his wife, family members include two daughters and sons-in-law, Loretta and Dee Biby and Vanessa and Mike Proffitt; four sisters, Lucille Humphreys, Virginia Smiley, Doreen Arehart and Linda Arehart; four grandchildren, Allen Strandberg, Ashley Strandberg, Franklin Proffitt and Byron Proffit; a great-grandchild, Sheridan Proffitt; a number of nieces and nephews and a special pet, Little Bear.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry Wallace Arehart and Wayne Arehart.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens. Military rites will be conducted by Augusta-Staunton VFW Post #2216.
Active pallbearers will be Franklin Humphreys, Joe Humphreys, Dean Harlow, William Fix, Dee Biby and Allen Strandberg.
Honorary pallbearers will be friends attending the service.
The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, in the funeral home.
