Police Investigate death of former Ellis woman. Olathe police are investigating the death of a former Ellis woman as a murder.

Sheila Carper, 64, was found unconscious in her home Sunday. An ambulance and police were summoned when a son living in her home called 911.

Olathe police spokesman, Sgt Greg O'Halloran said Carper died of strangulation. Detectives are narrowing the field of suspects but aren't ready to arrest anyone, O'Halloran said. He declined to identify the son who summoned help on Sunday, but Carper's obituary lists Jason as living at home. Two sons and three stepsons live in other cities.

Detectives project that they will be able to submit the case to the Johnson County District Attorney's office sometime next week, O'Halloran said. Carper still has family living in the northwest Kansas area. A brother, Frank Augustine, and a sister, Norma Lang, live in Ellis. Another sister, Lillie Lang, lives in WaKeeney.
