Billy Joe Box, 76, a retired furniture manufacturing supervisor, passed away Saturday January 18, 2014 at the University Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Mr. Box was born September 21, 1937 in Choctaw County, MS. He was a member of the Chester Baptist Church and served 23 years as a member of the Army National Guard.

Billy Joe was a member of the Spokesman, a southern gospel group. He was a wonderful fiddle player and also played other instruments.

Funeral Services for Mr. Box will be held on Wednesday January 22, 2014 at 11AM at the Chester Baptist Church near Ackerman. Interment will follow in the Chester Baptist Cemetery. Rev. Rob Faulk and Rev. Stan Ballard will officiate. Visitation will be held Tuesday January 21, 2014 from 5PM until 8PM at Chester Baptist Church near Ackerman. Coleman Funeral Home of Ackerman, MS is in charge of all arrangements.

Mr. Box is survived by his wife, Faye (Richards) Box of Ackerman, his son, Billy Mark Box and wife Michelle of Franklin, TN, daughter, Teresa Shumaker and husband Bill of Ackerman, MS, four sisters, Debbie Gammill and husband Wesley of Ackerman, MS, Freida Jones and husband Gene of Ackerman, MS, Sandra Putman and husband Bill of Tupelo, MS, and Patsy Reed of Birmingham, AL, two brothers, Anthony Box and wife Brenda of Pearl, MS and Larry Box and wife Darlene of Fredericksburg, VA, three grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Earline (Davis) Box, and a brother Bobby Ted Box.
