Topeka Daily Capital, Sunday, Nov. 18, 1906, page 7:
H.K. Winans, for the past thirty years a resident of North Topeka and well known as a contractor and builder, died at Stormont Hospital early yesterday morning of tetanus, which developed from injuries received about two years ago. He was run down by a Rock Island switch engine near the Continental Creamery plant while returning from work some time ago, the wheels of the engine passing over one foot. The toes on this foot were amputated but complications set in which caused his death.

Mr. Winans was 70 years old and lived in Kansas before the civil war, during which he fought in the union army. The funeral will be held from his late residence, 1202 North Van Buren street, at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon. The services will be in charge of the G.A.R. It is requested that no flowers be sent.
