Suggested edit by contributor Kate (47871791): Since LostnFog posted the article which states that the dead peddler was not John Hower but rather John Auer, I checked the census for 1880. In June 1880 (after the April 1880 death of John Auer) Johan Hower was alive and living with his daughter Celinda (Salinda) in Ephrata, PA. He is listed as a widower gentleman. My conclusion is that he died after 1880 and is not buried in the pauper's cemetery. Although I haven't found where and when he IS buried. Sorry.
