KEUP, Peter

b. 26 Jan 1823

d. 09 Jun 1895

ossw/Caroline (Wife)

Peter Keup was born in Voigtshagen, Pomerania, Prussia (today named Włodarka, in the West Pomeranian district of Poland), the second of the seven children of Martin Keup and his wife Engel (née Witte). He was named after his paternal grandfather (Peter Keup).

Peter and his wife Caroline emigrated to the United States in the 1860s with the first of their eight children, born in Voigtshagen; their youngest children were born in Wisconsin.

For more on the Keup family, see the memorial page of Peter's sister, Sophia Keup Pfeil as well as memorial pages for others in the Butzlaff family who also emigrated to the United States (they were the children of Peter's sister, Maria Keup Butzlaff).

Most of these relatives arrived in Wisconsin in the 1880s, some twenty years after Peter Keup, who was the first in the family to settle in southern Wisconsin, where he was a farmer.
