GREENSBORO - On Monday, February 23, 2009, Betty Jean French Manson, better known as Betty, passed from this world to the next with her entire family at her side. She will be with all of her friends and loved ones who have passed before her and where she will wait for all of her friends and loved ones, who are still living, to join her in the future.

After the private burial, a memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, March 1, at West Market Street Untied Methodist Church, 302 W. Market Street.

Betty was born in Rocky Mount, N.C., on February 27, 1930, to parents, the late Kathleen Holland French and Luther Graham French. She attended Central Elementary, Central Jr. High and graduated from [Greensboro] Grimsley High School. Betty went on to attend the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and graduated with a degree in Business. After graduation from college, Burlington Industries employed Betty where she remained until the birth of her first child when she became a stay at home mother.

Betty has been a life member of West Market Street Untied Methodist Church where she was active in Sunday School, youth groups, women's organizations and various other activities. Betty was also a member of the "Junior League" and several bridge clubs.

Betty was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a friend to many and she will be greatly missed.

Surviving Betty are her husband, to whom she has been married for 55 years, Joseph Fletcher [Joe] Manson; daughter, Karrie Jo Manson, daughter, Martie Lee Manson Shytle and her husband, Carl; grandchildren, Anna Julia Opaleski, John Joseph Opaleski, Emma Kathleen Prescott; and step- granddaughter, Lindsay Erin Shytle. Also surviving Betty are her brother, Luther Graham French, Jr. and his wife, Mary Henrie Arthur French of Greensboro; her sister-in- law, Pat Manson of Durham, N.C.; her 100 year old aunt, Mabel Holland Wright of Washington, D.C.; her 96 year old uncle, Woody Holland of Los Angeles, California, and her many wonderful cousins.
