Mrs. Rosanna McMillen, wife of
Robert McMillen, died of tyhoid pneumonia
after an illness of about, seventeen days,
at her residence, 228 West
Broadway, Sunday evening, October
27, 1889, aged nearly 72 years.
The deceased, who was the only
daughter of James and Margaret
Harper, was born in Highland county,
Ohio, January, 7, 1818. She came
to this State and county with her
parents in the year 1832, and was
united in ^marriage with Robert McMillen,
July 10. 1834, Rev. Martin M. Post
performing the ceremony. Eleven children
were born to this marriage, of whom eight—
five sons and three daughters—survive as
mourners of an irreparable loss.
Mrs. McMillen was a devoted Christian woman,
and a faithful member of the Presbyterian
Church for many years. As a true and loving
help meet to her honored husband she aided
greatly in sustaining that church during
its early struggles for establishment in
this community, and so did much for the up
building of her Master's Kingdom.
As a mother she has given to tries
world good men and women to rise
up and call her blessed, and to be useful
and respected among their neighbors. As a
neighbor and friend herinfluence has been
a savor of the better lift? From the
hardships and toils of a pioneer life she
passed to the comfort of a competence, but
her labors of love ceased not. Now she
is at rest, and is enjoying the reward
of a long and well spent life. For
the venerable bereaved husband
there is only the consolation of the
hope of a speedy reunion with his beloved
companion. For the children
there is the comfort of sweet and holy
memories. For friends and acquaintances
there remains the teaching and influence
of her example?
"Blessed are the dead who die in the
Lord."
The funeral will be held from the
family residence, 228 West Broadway,
this (Tuesday) afternoon at 2 o'clock,
with services conducted by Rev. D.
P. Putnam. Interment in Harper's
graveyard, Noble township, two miles
northwest of the city.
