PHYLLIS L. ANDERSON
Phyllis Lurena Anderson was born December 20, 1926 near Norwood, Iowa to Ted and Hallie (Boston) Anderson. She was raised in the Norwood and Garden Grove areas and attended Wren Hill country school near Norwood and graduated from Norwood High School. She then attended Simpson College to become a teacher. She mostly taught 1st grade in different Lucas County schools from 1947 until 1989.
Phyllis had many hobbies, but she especially enjoyed the outdoors and taking pictures. She often took wildlife pictures and pictures of her flowers. She grew many roses and often shared starts of them with family and friends. She loved to do things for others and used her photography as a way to make something to share with friends.
She enjoyed taking pictures of people in parades and then making a nice keepsake to give to them. She also deeply enjoyed her Norwood community and often shared local and family history with others. Phyllis loved to travel, whether it was across the country or just in the countryside, she always liked to go.
Phyllis passed away January 18th, 2014 at the Legacy Lodge Hospice House in Chariton at the age of 87 years due to complications of a stroke. Preceding her in death were her parents, Ted and Hattie; and an infant brother, John. Surviving are many cousins, neighbors, friends and students.
Services will be held Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with family receiving friends prior to the service beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Chariton. Interment will be at the Norwood Cemetery.
