Norman Wallace Scholes, Ph.D., 83, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2013. He was the husband of Marianne Schenkel Scholes for 39 years.

Norman was born Monday, June 9, 1930 in Odgen, UT, a son of the late Wallace Burnham Scholes and the late Rozanna Lee Scholes. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Air Force during Korea Conflict. He graduated from University of Southern California with a PHD in pharmacology. He worked at the City of Hope in Duarte CA. Afterward he taught Veterinary students Pharmacology for several years in Davis, California at the school of Veterinary Medicine. From there he moved to Omaha NE, to Creighton University School of Medicine where he taught medical, dental, nursing, and pharmacy students Pharmacology. He retired in 1985 and he and his wife owned a pharmacy in Omaha for ten years. In 1995they moved to Lynchburg to be close to family He was a member of Timberlake Christian Church.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by his children: Karen Phillips and Cheryl Rider, both of Collinsville, OK, Norman Scholes, Jr., of Potomac, MI, stepsons; Karl Armsbrust of Omaha, NE and Walter Armbrust of Oxford, England, many loved grandchildren, a sister-in-law: Winnifred Schenkel, a niece; Lisa Schenkel (Gregg Crandall), nephew; Danny Schenkel (Jennifer), niece, Carolina Hamilton (Dan), great-niece Clair and great-nephew Tice, all of Lynchburg. Norman is also survived by his dear friends he considered family: Victoria and John Britt.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

A celebration of Norman's life will be conducted at Timberlake Christian Church on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at 1:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Lynchburg Humane Society, 3305 Naval Reserve St, Lynchburg, VA 24501, or the Campbell County Rescue Squad, 155 Rainbow Forest Dr, Lynchburg, VA 24502.
