FATAL ACCIDENT ON THE M.A.O. RAILROAD:

Early Wednesday morning a wreck occurred on the Mobile and Ohio railroad near Oraville, eight miles north of Murphysboro, which resulted in the instant death of fireman J. B. Ragle, and fatal injuries to engineer I. E. Goodin, from which he died a few hours later, and painful injuries to brakesmen W. F. Hunt and Ben. Ashby.

Freight train No. 15, south-bound, side tracked at Oraville, and the engine had started to Bryden for water. A short distance north of Oraville, on a curve, the engine, from some unknown cause jumped the track, turning completely up side down.

The unfortunate fireman was buried underneath the engine, and his body was not recovered until late in the afternoon. The injured men were taken to Murphysboro, where the company surgeon, assisted by local physicians, dressed their wounds and made them as comfortable as possible.
