Norma Sue Bodden Byrd was born on December 13, 1937 in Pascagoula, Mississippi and died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, January 19, 2014.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Gary Schley Byrd on July 24, 2013; parents, William T. Bodden and Sue Canfield Bodden, brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Carolyn Bodden; brothers and sisters-in-laws, Donis Ward and Wanda Byrd, Nelwyn Byrd Taylor and Ronard Knox (Rocky) and Alyce Byrd; and parents-in-law, Murdock Schley and Esther Ward Byrd.

Norma Sue is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Sue Ellen (Kenny) Moore, Lenore (Donnie) Murray and Laura (Trevor) Cooley. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Melissa Moore (Paul Fowler), John (Leslie) Moore, Gene Warren (Danielle Lonneman), Richard Murray and Griffin Murray along with great grandchildren, Gage Miller, Connor McLeod, Maggie Fowler and a soon-to-be born great grandbaby Moore. Norma Sue is also survived by her siblings, Hugh (Udean) Bodden and Kathy (Bill) Allen and sister-in-law Lynda Byrd (Frank) Sharbrough; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Norma Sue was a lifelong resident of Pascagoula and graduated from Pascagoula High School in 1956. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Pascagoula where she served as a Sunday School teacher and was co-founder of the Bereavement Committee. Norma Sue was a member of Pascagoula Main Street where she was named Volunteer of the Year for 2010-2011. She was a master seamstress sewing all her daughters' clothes through the years. Norma Sue also loved gardening, especially tending to her many daylilies in the spring and watching football in the fall. She will be remembered as a loving and feisty mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and cousin. Norma Sue will be greatly missed however, we know she is happy to be reunited in heaven with our father, Gary.

A visitation will be held on January 24, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Pascagoula. The memorial service will follow immediately at 11:30 a.m. with the Reverend Matt Mitchell officiating. Interment will be in Macphelah Cemetery.
Serving as Honorary Pallbearers are: David Allen, Michael Allen, Hugh Bodden, Jr., Lance Bodden, Vann Bodden, Don McKee and Gordon Sanford.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Building Fund, the American Cancer Society or the cancer charity of your choice. The family would like to thank Rhonda Deschesnes and Shelia Hinton of Hospice of Light as well as Donna Holt and the nurses and staff of We Care Hospice. In addition, the family would like to thank the many friends and family who made time to visit Mrs. Byrd at We Care Hospice during her final days.
