Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 27, 2010 at an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. John Berchman Catholic Church in Cankton, for Roland Joseph Savoie, age 69, who passed away Monday, May 24, 2010 at his residence in Cankton.
Interment will be in St. John Berchman Mausoleum in Cankton. The Rev. Henry Broussard, will officiate at the services. Readers will be Jamie Fruge and Lenell Prejean.
Mr. Savoie was a native and lifelong resident of Cankton. He was a barber for 48 years, having been the owner and operator of Savoie's Barber Shop in Opelousas. Roland was an avid horseman. Mr. Savoie was a member of the American Quarter Horse Asscociation. He loved spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Betty Moreaux Savoie of Cankton; one son, Damon Savoie of Cankton; one brother, Harold Savoie and his wife, Betty, of Duson; one sister, Carole Sue Moreaux and her husband, Carol, of Spring, TX; and one grandchild, Kieran Fruge-Savoie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Savoie and the former Eva Herpin; and two brothers, Gerald Savoie and Floyd Savoie.
Pallbearers will be Ralph Herpin, Sheriff Bobby Guidroz, David Tate, Danny Schexnayder, Mike Savoie, and Damon Savoie. Honorary pallbearers will be Merrick Bourgeois and Larry Savoie.
Melancon Funeral Home of Carencro, 4615 North University Avenue, Louisiana was in charge of arrangements.
