Marie Martha Albanese, age 84, of Berkeley Springs, WV, died on Friday, January 17, 2014 at Winchester Medical Center.

Born August 27, 1929 in Morgan County, WV, she was the daughter of the late Walter Leslie and Elsie Emma Lea Kyne Clem.

She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Berkeley Springs. Marie attended Berkeley Springs High School and had worked in housekeeping at the Hotel Washington and later as a nurse's aide at both Valley View Nursing Home and Morgan County War Memorial Hospital. Active in civic affairs, she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post #60 and the Women of the Moose Chapter #1311. She earned the College of Regents Degree in 1998 and had served as Senior Regent with the Women of the Moose. Marie liked to travel and was a homemaker in recent years.

Surviving are her son, Mark Richard Clem of Warrenton, VA, four sisters, Mary Lea Clem of Berkeley Springs, Evelyn Virginia Sowers of Hancock, MD, Stella Louise Oden of Mercersburg, PA and Teresa Ilean Wilkinson of Clear Spring, MD, two grandchildren, Anna Grace Marie Clem of Doylestown, PA and Nicolas Paul Clem of The Plains, VA and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Nick Richard Albanese on May 8, 1998 and two brothers, Walter Joseph William Clem and Gilbert Sylvester "Gib" Clem.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 20, 2014 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Liberty and S. Washington Streets, Berkeley Springs, WV with the Rev. Fr. Leonard A. Smith as celebrant. Interment will be in Greenway Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. on Sunday at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs, WV.
