My grandma Nell and Grandpa John found love late in life, through the mail writing letters to each other . Nell was a schoolteacher in Wythe County Virginia, and even though the Dills family was in the same area in Virginia for generations... Johns Dad, who was a methodist preacher...had moved his family west to Idaho, then to Washington State. Rev John had started farming on land they bought in Moses Lake. John asked Nell to marry him in a letter he sent, and soon Nell left behind the only life she knew and all her family,,, for a chance at love. Nell was over 40 yrs old when she left the home she stayed in with her family, and was 44 yrs old when she married John in 1935 in Ellensburg WA. (John was 40) Their wedding was officiated by Rev John and soon the newlyweds were back in Moses Lake where John tended the farming duties and Nell was the postmaster at the May Valley PostOffice. Not long after they were married their only son John III was born. What a romantic happily-ever-after story! Grandma Nell spent the rest of her life in Washington State even after the loss of her soulmate and one true love in 1964. Nell never remarried and devoted the rest of her life to her son and grandchildren. "Don't let it be forgot, that once there was a spot, for one brief shining moment, that was known as Camelot."

Here are some molasses cookies grandma....Im sure they arent as good as yours! I often think of you now that I am a grandmother, and I appreciate how much you tried to do for me. You wrote letters of encouragement, you kept trying even when I was so busy growing up that I didnt have time for you. Im sorry about that grandma. Im also sorry the last time I saw you that you were stuck in that home all alone. You were the only one that made me feel I belonged and that I was wanted. Being with you, walking with you. even when we just threw rocks into the Pend Oreille meant the world to me. I have always wanted to thank you but never had the chance. Thank you for loving me grandma....Johnnie
