Harriet was preceded in death by her husband Gerald (MSgt, retired, aka “Sarge”), her brother, David (Jo), and sister-in-law Marge. She is survived by her daughter Julie Ann, her sons Mark (Barbara), Steve (Joanne) and Gregg (Julie). Also mourning her death are her grandchildren: Jennifer (Nick), Phillip Jr., Kevin, Eric, Todd (Lauren), Calinda (Mitch), Delanie, McKenzie, Elizabeth, and Katherine. Grandma “GG” will also be missed by her great-grandchildren; June, Ike and Hattie. She is also survived by her sister Mary (Bob), and her brothers Chuck (Terry), Dan (Betty Jo), and Mike, and many nieces and nephews.
Harriet settled in Calumet/Laurium in 1959 after following Jerry around the world for over ten years as he performed his military service. She worked as an LPN at Calumet Public Hospital while raising her four kids and became an honorary “Yooper” who enjoyed cross-country skiing, pasties, and saunas immensely. Harriet and Jerry devoted much of their time to their “camp” in the woods along the Otter River near Tapiola. She and Jerry left the UP in 1985 and retired to the Minong area in Northern Wisconsin, later living in the towns of Spooner and Bloomer as well. She returned to the UP many times to visit and reminisce, finally moving back in August of 2012 to the Bluffs Community in Houghton. From her windows on the hill at the Bluffs she could see another of the things she so loved about the UP: the gorgeous fall colors.
The memorial service for Harriet will be held on Friday, November 1 at 11:00am at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery just outside of Spooner, WI, where she will be interred beside Jerry.
