Charles Baumgardner enlisted at Wytheville May 29, 1861 as Lt. in Co. B, 45th Virginia Infantry. Charles was promoted to Captain by the final muster roll. He was captured at Winchester on September 19, 1864 and held as a POW at Ft. Delaware until released on June 17, 1865.
