Notes: Although, J.H. Bellis grew up in Winchester, Ky., he was born in Estill County. He was the informant on his children's DCs and supplied this information himself. Also, his middle name is often spelled incorrectly as Huston in records. He signed his WWI Draft registration, very legibly, as John Houston Bellis. J.H. was not an only child, as the obituary states. In the 1900 census, his mother was enumerated as the mother of 8 children with 2 children living. J.H.'s daughter, by his first marriage, Clara Bellis Sayre, was omitted from the obituary. This may have been corrected in a later printing.
