Graveside services for Hugh Roberts, 85 formerly of Locust Grove, will be held on Friday, January 17, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Davenport Cemetery in Davenport, OK.

Viewing will be Thursday from 10am-6pm at Key Funeral Home in Locust Grove. Services are under the direction of Key Funeral Home in Locust Grove.

Hugh Roberts passed away on January 14, 2014 at Fayetteville, AR.

Hugh was born August 12, 1928 at Davenport, Oklahoma to Herbert Carlton and Lula Mae (Clark) Roberts.

Hugh married Bonnie Louise Adams on 30 June 1959 at the Church of Christ in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Hugh was predeceased by his parents Herbert Carlton Roberts and Lula Mae Clark. Hugh was also predeceased by a daughter Lois June (Judy) (Shaffer) Cox and a grandson, Gerald (Jerry) Ray Taff and one brother Lawrence Herbert Roberts.

He is survived by his wife; a son Clarence Jimmy Shaffer and wife Lilia of Tahlequah, OK; and a daughter Joyce (Joy) (Shaffer) Jacobs and her husband Kris of Fayetteville, Ark. There are also five grandchildren: Sondra Renee (Shaffer) Hernensen; Jimmie Dee Shaffer; Terri Lynn (Shaffer) Long and husband Gene; Christopher Dwayne Taff and wife Michelle; Richard (Rick) Edmond Taff and several great-grandchildren. Hugh is also survived by several cousins in Davenport and Claremore.

Hugh grew up in Davenport, OK joining the U.S. Army in November 1950 at Oklahoma City, OK. He was honorably discharged at Camp Collins, Colorado.

Hugh worked for Douglas Aircraft in Tulsa, OK where he met his wife. He later had his own barber shop in West Tulsa.

In 1961 he accepted a position as a clerk in the Tulsa Post Office. In 1963 he transferred to the Locust Grove, OK post office working as a clerk, rural carrier and officer-in-charge before retiring in 2001.

Bonnie and Hugh were recognized for their many charitable activities by being chosen as the Grand Marshals at the 2005 Founders Day Parade in Locust Grove. They were also recognized three times as Citizens of the Year in their community.
