In 1869, Emma married Confederate veteran Peter Pelham in Oxford, Alabama. Peter was the brother of the famous Major John Pelham, known as "The Gallant Pelham of Alabama" and "The Boy Artillerist."

From the " History of Worth County, Georgia, 1854-1934," by L. Grubbs, Burke & Co., Macon, GA p. 478 ," Mr and Mrs. Pelham had 6 children but only 3 lived. Not located is Mary, who married Herbert Joel Graves and lived in Washington, D. C. at the printing . In 1917 Major Pelham married a second time to Mrs. Sally Jackson. "
