Emigrated to OH from Hampshire, England with his wife and first child in 1935. Husband of Eliza (Ray) Taylor (1812-1871?), whom he married in Farlington St. Andrew ENG before sailing from Portsmouth to the US. Apprenticed as a butcher for 3 yrs. in England and practiced that trade in Muskingum Co. OH for a while, supplying the crews building the new railfroad with meat until he earned enough money to buy a farm. Eliza died in 1871 and in 1873 Alfred married (Elizabeth) "Betsey" Herron (1816-1891). Eventually owned and farmed abt. 500 acres in Union Twp, Muskingum Co. Father of Alfred H. (1834-1901), George (1837-1912), Thomas (1843-1922), Isabella (1846-after 1880), Courtney Hiram (1855-1935).
