Rebecca Deason married William Riley Smith on Feb. 20, 1848, Bibb Co., Alabama. William, the son of Archibald B. Smith and wife Susannah Reach/Rich, was born about 1825. William served in Co. B, 44 AL and died of disease at Richmond during the Civil War. He enlisted at Scottsville, on Mar 15, 1862. Records list him at Fredericksburg, Dec. 15, 1862. Absent sick through Knoxville, Nov. 29, 1863. Present at Dandridge, Jan. 16, 1864, and on thru Spotsylvania May 12, 1864. Absent sick Mechanicsville, and Cold Harbor, June 3, 1864. Died of disease at Richmond, VA, June 15, 1864.
