Sharon Versace Major, 65, of Rome, fought for her dreams, but they ended on Monday, Jan. 13, 2014 after a short illness with her loving husband by her side.

She was born on Jan. 17, 1948 in Rome, a daughter of the late Joseph and Carmella "Nellie" Colangelo Versace.

Sharon was a 1966 graduate of Rome Free Academy and a 1968 graduate of the Foundling Hospital. She was employed by the Central New York D.S.O. as a recreation worker for many years. On Oct. 11, 1975 in St. John the Baptist Church, Sharon was united in marriage to Dale Major.

Sharon is survived by soul mate and husband of 38 years, Dale D. Major; sister of Seattle, Wash.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harry and Fern Major of Wampsville; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Debra and Mark McKeenan of Leroy; an aunt, Lena Versace; many cousins; and many special friends who were always there for her.

Mrs. Major's funeral will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Paul Angelicchio. Interment will be held in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the Gulla Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., 209 N. Washington St., Rome, (336-5700).
