Bonsall, former Curwensville athletic director
CURWENSVILLE - James Amos Bonsall, 78, of Beech Street, Curwensville, died Wednesday, April 10, 1991, at his residence.
He was born July 15, 1912, in Penn Township, the son of Alvin G. and Alice (Davis) Bonsall.
He was a school teacher first employed by the Millerstown Area School District for five and a half years. While there he coached soccer, basketball and baseball.
He was retired from the Curwensville Area School District after 34 years of service. While at Curwensville he taught in the business department and served as athletic director for 25 years.
He was a 1930 graduate of the Curwensville High School and a 1934 graduate of the Susquehanna University. He was affiliated with the West Branch Society of Friends Church in Grampian and was a past member of the Curwensville Education Association.
He was a member of the Curwensville Lodge F. and A. M. No. 480; member of the Williamsport Consistory and the Jaffa Shrine in Altona. He was a member and past chairman of the Curwensville Area Republican Club and had served as the Clearfield County chairman for U.S. Rep. E.G. Bud Shuster.
He was first married to the former Dorothy Haley, who preceded him in death, and then was married to the former Margaret (Betty) McCue, who also preceded him in death.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, a brother Kenneth in 1982 and a sister Maudella in 1924.
He is survived by one son, Barry Bonsall of R. D. 3, Osceola Mills, one brother and three sisters, William Bonsall of Curwensville, Mrs. Marie Chruslinski of Clifton, N.J., Mrs. Donald (Dorothy) Ruppert of Grampian and Mrs. Pierce (Helen Louise) Geist of Bellwood.
Services will be held at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. in Curwensville on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William Crites and Mr. Walt Fry co-officiating.
Interment will be in the Friends Cemetery, Grampian R.D.
Friends will be received at the funeral home from 2-9 p.m. Friday and until time of services Saturday.
Masonic services will be conducted by the Curwensville Lodge Friday evening a t 7:30.
The family suggests contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, the Curwensville Area Library Building Fund, the American Heart Association, or the Diabetes Foundation.
