The Reverend Jesse T. Flythe was the son of John Allman Flythe (1783-1866) and Millison (Millicent) "Millie" Sikes (Sykes) (1784-1840) of Northampton County, NC.

Jesse was an esteemed Methodist minister and community leader. Locally, he served in various roles such as Justice of the Peace and County Coroner. On the state level, Jesse served as a member of the North Carolina House of Commons as well as a senator from the 4th district (Northampton County) in the General Assembly of North Carolina in the 1860's and 1870's.
