Clara married Sherman C. Lucus (a railroad worker) on February 24, 1923. They had four sons: Sherman C. Lucas Jr., Norman Lucas, Robert Dale Lucas and Willis D. Lucas; nine grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
Grandma Clara was one of the nicest people you could meet. She was charming, friendly and very witty. All the kids in the neighborhood called her "Grandma." She made the BEST beef & noodles, strawberry jam, graham cracker pies and egg sandwiches.
On November 2, 1993, when God called her home, Grandma said, "I'm going to be a good angel." And she is.∼In 1930 she and her husband and their three children lived in a house they owned at 990 I Street SW in Linton, IN. They did not have a radio. He worked as a laborer on a railroad section.
In 1940 she and Sherman and their four children lived in a house they were renting for seven dollars a month at 746 West Hillside Avenue in Spencer, IN. He worked as a laborer for a railroad, with an income in 1939 of $700 for 52 weeks of work.
