David Hopla James, 70, well-known local farmer and stockman, died Monday morning at his home after a long illness. He was born January 22, 1877, in Spanish Fork, a son of Reese E. and Jane Hopla James. He spent most of his life in Spanish Fork, engaged in farming and stock raising. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and filled a mission in the southern states when a young man. He was a member of the seventies quorum at the time of his death.

He was employed by the Spanish Fork Co-op for 17 years, and was a member of its board of directors for 27 years.

He married Mary Ellen Thompson. After her death he married Mary Ann Sorenson, who died Nov. 5, 1937. He married Ethel Timmons April 27, 1940.

He is survived by his widow and three sons and daughters, Wendell and John James of Spanish Fork; Mrs. Donna Harmer, Springville; 10 grandchildren; five brothers and sisters, Reese D. and Howell James, Mrs. M.P. Larsen and Mrs. William L. Roundy, all of Spanish Fork, and Mrs. Robert Sterling, Provo.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Spanish Fork Third LDS ward chapel. Burial will be in the Spanish Fork Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Claudin Funeral Home Tuesday evening and at the family home Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time for services.
