In Loving Memory
Shirley Ann Wedwick
12/25/1932 - 1/11/2014

Shirley Ann Wedwick, 81, died on Saturday, January 11, 2014, after three years of battling cancer. She passed away peacefully at home with the love and prayers of her family.

Shirley was born to Virgil and Beatrice Goff on December 25, 1932, in Lawrenceville, IL. After her mother died at an early age, her "Mom," Clara Goff, lovingly raised Shirley. Family, both her own and her extended family, were of the utmost importance to her.

She married John Wedwick and they raised five children: Mike (Janet) of Prairie Du Sac, WI, Jeff (Jessie) of Loves Park, Cathy (Dan) Bellich of Belvidere, Patty (Bob) Lambert of Sharpsburg, GA, and her beloved youngest son, Steven, who predeceased her. Also predeceasing Shirley was her dear brother, Raymond. She will be deeply missed by her 11 devoted grandchildren, Michael (Lindsay), David (Melissa), Nathan, Elijah, Jean-Marie, Dorothea, Ben, Tim, Steven, Julienne, and Colby; and 7 loving great-grandchildren Aidan, Luke, Colin, Archer, Nora, Michael, and Jacob. Shirley is also survived by her younger brothers, Don (Marie) Goff of Lawrenceville, Pat (Judy) Goff of Carthage MO, and Jerry (Gloria) Goff of Jasper IN; her dear sister-in-law, Mickie Goff of Ozark, AL, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and aunts; as well as the numerous friends that were like family to her.

Shirley came to the Rockford area in the early 1950's working at Western Union. The family moved from Rockford to the Rockton area in 1968. She retired after 30 years of hard work at Warner Lambert where she made many lifelong friends. Shirley also enjoyed volunteering at the Goldie Floberg Children's Home and Caritas. She had a zest for life and a strength to get through adversity. The things she loved were to travel, whether to family or places near and far; sports, be it on TV, sitting in the bleachers, or on a lawn chair watching her grands and greats. After retiring she had time to enjoy gardening and feeding the beautiful birds that came to feast in her yard. And last, but not least, it was her beautiful faith in God that carried her through these years.

Her family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the wonderful nurses at Rockford Memorial Hospital and to the compassionate care given to Mom during her final days by VNA/Hospice. Thanks and may God bless you all.

Funeral ceremonies will be held at 10:30 am Friday January 17, 2014 in Prince of Peace Lutheran Church 2336 Freeport Road Rockton, IL with Pastor Doug Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Rockton Township Cemetery. A visitation will be held at McCorkle Funeral Home – Rockton Chapel 767 N Blackhawk Blvd. Rockton, IL from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Thursday. A memorial is being established for St. Jude's Children Hospital P.O. Box 1000 Dept. 142 Memphis, TN 38148-0142. Visit www.mccorklefuneralhome.com to write condolences.
