Obituary

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today at Gadsden Cumberland Presbyterian Church for Gladys Hodge Phillips, Hokes Bluff, who passed away on Feb. 24, 2011, with her best friends (her daughters) by her side. The Revs. Barney Hudson and Wade Acton will officiate. Burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home will direct services.
Mrs. Phillips was a devoted mother, and first and foremost a devoted Christian and member of her church. She taught the Inspirations Sunday School class until the age of 90 years old. She will be so missed by her church family, of which she was the oldest member and loved by all. She treasured the love of her surviving sister, Marie.
Even until the last week of her life, Gladys stated she "Loved God, Jesus and everyone."
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Phillips Sr.; parents, Tom and Mamie Hodge; sisters, Clara Anderson and Flora Carrington; brothers, the Rev. Eddie Hodge, Henry Hodge and Wayne Hodge; and son-in-law, Melvin Lyles.
She is survived by her daughters, Signa (Buck) Adcock, Alma Lyles and Judy (Sid) Moyer; grandchildren, Stephen (Kay) Adcock, Toni (Lance) Williamson, Lisa (Mike) Kirby, Greg Lyles, Rick (Tina) Moyer, David (Charla) Moyer and Michael (Shari) Moyer; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Marie (George) Hendrix; sisters-in-law, Lavinia Hodge and Belle Fuhrman; brother-in-law, Billy Phillips; and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Rick Moyer, David Moyer, Michael Moyer, Steve Adcock, Greg Lyles, Mike Kirby and Lance Williamson.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Gadsden Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Gleaners Circle, Inspirations Sunday School class, Wilma Weathington, Wanda Ray, Mary Bynum and Tony Woods.
The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to Gadsden Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Special thanks to Gadsden Regional Medical Center MICU (Oakley and Blake), dietary department (John and Sharon), respiratory therapy, and eighth-floor south nurses. Their love will always be remembered.
The family will receive friends at Gadsden Cumberland Presbyterian Church today from noon until the hour of service.
