Russell W. Austin, 71, of McAlester, died January 9, 2014 at his residence after a 3 year battle with cancer. Russell was born January 6, 1943 in McAlester, Oklahoma to Russell Woodrow, Sr. & Jimmie Bayless Austin. He graduated from McAlester High School, class of 1961. He graduated from East Central University in Ada before being drafted into the U.S. Army. After graduating from OCS, he served in Vietnam. After his military service he moved to Tulsa to begin working for Jones & Laughlin Supply Division. While working in the same location, he met and later married Linda Spessard on January 23, 1970 in Tulsa. Russell worked for the same company for over 31 years, and held numerous positions from salesman to credit manager, retiring in 2010. He enjoyed staying busy spending time outdoors. He was very proud of his granddaughters and enjoyed spending time with them.
