A U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, Walter was in the retail grocery business in Austin for many years. He loved hunting and fishing with his family and loved his garden. Walter was one who never met a stranger.
He is survived by his wife, best friend, and help mate of 59 years, Ruby; son-in-law, Allan Lawrence; daughters, Judy Dunn (John) and Beverly Lawrence (Ronnie); son, Bryan (Cindi); brother, Johnny (Shirley) and sisters, Doris Gardner and Dorothy Daniels (Donnie); eight grandchildren, Shawn Lehne, Alanna Lawrence, Buddy Lawrence, Ronald Lawrence, Robert Lawrence, Randy Lawrence, Robyn Schoen, Bobby Schoen; 17 great-grandchildren; one aunt, Ethel Schoen, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 12, 2005, at the Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home with The Reverend David Melber officiating. Burial followed in Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Allan Lawrence, Brian Lehne, Buddy Lawrence, John Dunn, Ronald Lawrence, Robert Lawrence, Randy Lawrence and Bobby Schoen.
