John A. Ashworth, son of Jesse Ashworth and Margaret Mary Merrill Ashworth, John was married twice. First wife was Mary Ann Moore, married about 1855, daughter of Clinton Houston Moore and Sarah Shipman Moore, she died July 14, 1858, buried at Moore Cemetery, Transylvania County, North Carolina.
2nd wife was Zilphia A. Crane, they married about 1860, daughter of Elizabeth Malinda Roper Crane, father unknown. Some say her father was Pleasant Crane, but his will was probated in 1841/1842 and Zilphia was born in 1844. Both events are well documented.
