James M. Garriott died last Saturday. Mar. 22, at 4 o'clock p. m., of consumption, aged 70 years. Mr. Garriott was born in Jan. 1820, in Washington county, and lived with his father, a well-to-do farmer, until he started into the warfare of this life for himself, He was married in 1840 to Miss Jamima Johnson, who still survives him. They raised a large family of whom 8 are living and all married. Mr. G. first began life as a farmer in which he was very successful. He entered the mercantile business about 14 years ago at this place. He has been a faiihful member of the U. B. Church for a number of years, aud leaves a large circle of friends and relatives to mourn his departed life. His remains were taken to Mt. Hebron Cemetery for interment. - Salem Democrat, March 22 1890
