Gertrude Byerley Phipps, age 79 of Laurinburg passed away on Wednesday, January 08, 2014 at the Edwin Morgan Center.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 13, 2014 at the Living Water Church of God officiated by Rev. Steven Adams. Burial will follow the service in Hillside Memorial Park.

Gertrude was born January 8, 1935 in Fairchance, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Edward and Gertrude G. Byerley. She was the loving wife to the late Billy Phipps. She was a devoted homemaker and loved spending time with her family and friends. Before her illness, Gertrude was an active member of the McColl Pentecostal Holiness Church, she enjoyed gardening, sewing and cooking. She formerly served as the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Past President.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Edward Byerley.

Surviving are her children, William "Bill" Spaw (Susan) of Margate, FL, Nancy Clark (Robert) of West Palm Beach, FL, Pamela Smith of Laurinburg, Sandra Ensign (Terry) of Warren, OH, JoAnne Faulkner of Liberty Township, OH, John Ridge of Laurinburg, Jay Ridge (Cathy) of McColl, SC; sisters, Edna Trinkle and Millie Vesley; nineteen grandchildren, twenty seven great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service on Monday at Living Water Church of God.
